September 26, 2018 – Dr. Tabassam Raza, Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Business and Director of the Disaster Risk Management Unit (DRM Unit) of the Philippine School of Business Administration – Manila (PSBA-Manila), is presenting a research poster at the Sixth Annual International Conference on Sustainable Development held on the September 26 to 28, 2018 at the Alfred Lerner Hall, Columbia University, New York City, also known as ICSD 2018.

ICSD is an annual forum that connects academia, government, civil society, United Nations agencies, and private sectors in sharing practical solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs). The event is organized by the Center for Sustainable Development, The Earth Institute, The Global Master’s in Development Practice, and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN); where PSBA-Manila DRM Unit is a member of SDSN. The theme for ICSD 2018 is “Breaking Down Silos: Fostering Collaborative Action on the SDGs”.

Dr. Raza’s research poster entitled “Understanding and Managing Risks of Climate Extremes: A Local Sustainable Development Action Plan, Quezon City, Philippines” discusses how a Local Sustainable Development Action Plan was formulated for Quezon City, Philippines. This study used a risk-sensitive comprehensive land use development planning model as a practical mechanism in achieving SDGs, specifically SDG 11: “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” and can be adapted to other cities as a tool for creating sustainable settlements resilient to climate change.
