
Philippine School of Business Administration – Manila Wins First Place in Gawad KALASAG Awards 2018
The Philippine School of Business Administration – Manila (PSBA-Manila) won First Place in the Regional Gawad KALASAG Awards 2018 for the Higher Education Institutions category. The Gawad KALASAG Award is given to National institutions for their outstanding contribution and excellence in disaster risk reduction and management, as well as humanitarian assistance. This was the first year that the Gawad KALASAG Awards had a category for Higher Education Institutions wherein PSBA-Manila took home first place for the National Capital Region (NCR).
PSBA-Manila was represented by Dr. Tabassam Raza, Director of the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Unit and Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Business, who received the award on the behalf of PSBA-Manila President Dr. Jose F. Peralta. The award was given by MGen. Romulo M. Cabantac Jr., Regional Director of OCD-NCR, and Director Amante Salvador, Metro Manila DRRMC. Dr. Raza was accompanied by Engr. Ernie Lopez, Senior System Analyst; Mr. Philip Pandan, DRM Projects and Researches Coordinator; Ms. Lyalee Tiongson, Geographic Information Systems Coordinator; and two Master in Business Administration specialization in DRM (MBA-DRM) Research fellows, Ms. Shenah Marie Maala and Ms. Annmarie Diane Marquinez during the award ceremony. The Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), National Capital Region (NCR) held the 2018 Gawad KALASAG Award Ceremony for NCR on Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Dimalupig Hall A, Armed Forces of the Philippines Commissioned Officers Clubhouse, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The PSBA-Manila partner Quezon City Government has also won the regional Gawad KALASAG Awards 2018 as Best City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council (Highly Urbanized City Category) and Government Emergency Management Services. Hon. Mayor Herbert Bautista of Quezon City shared his noble vision and support in line with Disaster Risk Reduction and Management to help everybody be aware and be prepared during and after disasters, both natural and man-made.

First placers in the Regional Gawad KALASAG Awards 2018, including PSBA-Manila, are now qualified for the 2018 National Gawad KALASAG Awards for their respective categories against the first placers of other regions in the country.
